that distinguish this city (a Beta world city) from a Gamma world city:
* The Embarcadero has been transformed into an incredible, livable, gorgeous collection of parks, base ball stadium, restaurants, street cars and public art, all looking out over the Bay
* There is a paucity of franchised food here
* Things away from industrial areas are VERY clean
* There seem to not be police cars every twenty feet, and people seem to feel confident
* Everything in developed areas seems to be well kept
* There is a paucity of big box retailers, and almost no acreage dedicated to parking lots
* There is evidence of further enormous growth, which is laid out in a manner designed to increase walking and interplay, and reduce driving
And that's just in two days of not really having had the time to look around.
I'm already packed up to go home; my flight is in three hours.
Later, I'll deliver my impressions of the Gay VN awards show here, what it's like to consistently find amazing food in little nooks and crannies, and why the new BMW 330i is amazing.
