This is something that's been bothering me lately

"Today's oral hygiene tip: Don’t brush your teeth---you never know what you're puttin' in there. The Colgate-Palmolive company is warning consumers about counterfeit Colgate toothpaste that may contain a toxin commonly found in antifreeze. On the bright side, you can make all your dental appointments at Jiffy Lube."
---Stephen Colbert

So, we know that Chinese manufactured protein stock was used in dog food, cattle food, and human food - and that this protein stock was contaminated with melamine to increase the protein values. Melamine is toxic to mammals ..

We also see that one of the most popular cars in Europe, one which my friend Brian tells me is the best that the Chinese auto industry has to offer, crumples up like a cheap tissue when run through a standard barrier crash test. Actually, it crumples up worse than a Pontiac Montana mini-van, which is pretty amazing..

Here's my concern - we're allowing nearly unrestricted Chinese imports. More importantly, Chinese and third-world manufactured components are entering into our supply chain, wholly uninspected and unregulated, and are being used by domestic manufacturers in products that we have been conditioned to trust over decades. These products can now turn out to be toxic, without our having any prior choice over our purchase decision - we won't KNOW who's using uninspected and unregulated Chinese feedstock in the supply chain.

What other toxic or dangerous products have we now allowed into our stream of commerce, replacing or comprising safe and healthy products we have long come to expect were monitored and secured by our own Government?

The cost of globalization seems to be to bring down the regulated standard, bring down the wage base, bring down the health and safety, and bring down the quality of life to the lowest common denominator dictated upon us by countries such as China which are wholly unregulated.
